Cesar Oge: Hong Kong, here we come!

Cesar Oge ? Maybe this name rings a bell as you’ve already read about him in Successful Vateliens. Right after he finished studying at Vatel Nimes in 2012, Cesar was contacted by a head-hunting agency for the position of Strategic Development Manager for the English Market of the Dayuse-hotels.com Internet site.

Cesar had this job just for over a year, before being contacted at the end of 2013 to be the Restaurant Manager for two restaurants belonging to Kee Group, a private club in Hong Kong. Before you could count to three, Cesar jumped at this opportunity and took off for Asia with his best friend and Vatel school mate, Raphael Dieu.  Hong Kong, here we come!

Hi Cesar.  Thanks for contacting us to tell us about your new job. So tell us a more about how you had this opportunity to work in Hong Kong.

I was talking with Raphael, who had just started working in Hong Kong, about how tired I was about living in Paris and how I wanted to work abroad. And he told me that Kee Group was looking for a Restaurant Manager for two of its restaurants: Alfies and La Reserve. Once again, the Vatel network!

What do your new functions consist in? Can you give us some information about the restaurants where you work?

- Daily management of these two restaurants,

- Customer relations,

- Group representation during special events, etc.

The two restaurants I manage are in the Alfred Dunhill concept store, which is in the most prestigious part of the city: Landmark Prince’s Building, N°10; Chater Road. The concept store is a three-story one and embodies Alfred Dunhill’s famous taste for luxury and details.

Alfies is a very cozy British style restaurant catering mainly to business customers. La Reserve is a Wine Bar that serves “gourmet tapas.” It has a much more relaxed atmosphere with Chefs cooking right in front of the customers.

What are your first impressions of Hong Kong? Does this city have a lot of potential for Vateliens?

In Hong Kong, anything is possible. Here, the saying, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way,” sums it all up. No one is ever alone in Hong Kong. It’s a gateway city where Expats come and go.  That’s why professional relationships and/or friendships are created easily and quickly. As French people with a diploma, companies open their arms to us. A Vatelien in Hong Kong will always have great challenges to meet.

Speaking of that, have you already met any Vateliens? What about opening an Alumni Vatel Club in Hong Kong?

I’ve already met several friends in Hong Kong. Here I’m thinking especially about Morgan Rousseau, from the same class as Raphael and me, who just opened her own restaurant.

This city attracts many Vateliens, and will continue to do so I’m sure. This is the reason why I’m sure that creating an Alumni Vatel Club HK  would be a good idea. It will complement the Asian Club that already exists in Shanghai!
